Sustainable fashion choices ruled the red carpet at the 2020 Oscars
Fashion designers today are forced to be more creative than ever by creating styles made from sustainable materials. At this year’s Academy Award ceremony, this was no exception, celebrities and A-listers strutted their sustainable fashion choices on the red carpet. Margot Robbie, for example, rocked a chronicled Chanel dress and a Saoirse Ronan gown was made from cutouts of a discarded Gucci ensemble.
Here are some of our favorite sustainable looks that graced the red carpet at this year’s Oscars.
Margot Robbie opted for a previously used, vintage Chanel gown for this year’s Academy Awards. The gown was originally part of Chanel’s spring/summer collection from way back in 1995. Last year for the Cannes Film Festival, the actress wore another sustainable design from Chanel’s 2011 collection.
Kim Kardashian West
The famous reality star and entrepreneur, Kardashian has always been obsessed with just about everything that is vintage, but she went above and beyond at the 2020 Oscars, wearing an achieved gown by Alexander McQueen spring/summer 2003 collection. There are only two of these dresses in existence, one is displayed in the MET in New York and Kim Kardashian owns the other one.
Lily Aldridge couldn’t decide which sustainable dress to wear to the Academy Awards this year, so she wore two different gowns. We loved the first one more than the second; it was an archival design by Ralph Lauren from 2013 and the red silk flower cinched at waist perfectly matched the red carpet.
This wasn’t the first time we saw Fonda wear this stunning red Elie Saab gown, as she wore it in 2014 at the Cannes Film Festival and left us all speechless. Once again, she awed us with her flawless fashion choices in the embellished sequined rouge gown at the 2020 Oscars.
Banks followed Fonda’s example, by wearing the same dress twice. We loved Banks’ little red dress 16 years ago, when she stepped out on the red carpet for the Vanity Fair party after the Academy Awards. She proudly wore the same dress again, and we cannot deny the fact that she hasn’t aged a day for the same event.
The handsome Joaquin Phoenix has worn the same sustainable Stella McCartney suit to all of the recent award events, in order to bring attention to the need to reduce waste and the present climate emergency.
We must admit that Ronan’s look was not our favorite look from the 2020 Oscars and we have never seen her wear this exact dress before. However, we have seen her wear parts of that dress before, for example the top part of the dress was from an adorable little Gucci gown she wore to Baftas this year.
Colman has the ability to turn heads not only for her stellar choice in fashion choices but for contagious smile. We loved her new haircut that she sported at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony along with her Stella McCartney gown, which was made from 100% sustainable materials.
Tucker made a statement at the 2020 Oscars, but we can’t decide which grabbed our attention more: her vintage Oscar de la Renta gown or her heartthrob, Adam Driver.
